Why Somatics?
The word soma, is the Greek word for body. Somatics is about bringing awareness to our body from an internal perspective. Many of us may be able to describe external attributes of our body, like our hair color. It may be harder for us to make contact to what is happening within our body, like how our emotions feel in our body. The more we are in relation to what is happening within, the more we are empowered to navigate and adapt to it. The more we can be aware of what is present, the more we are able to address it, feel it, process it, release it.
Somatics helps us reconnect to ourselves so we that we can recognize and honor our needs, clear what no longer serves us, and align our lives with our truth. Modern life leaves us feeling fragmented and our body is the pathway to returning to wholeness.
So what does somatics look like in practice? We use body-based practices to connect to the body and bring both a sense of awareness and safety. These practices include visualizations, meditations, breathwork, movement, and exercises that work with the physiology of our nervous system. As we develop a deeper relationship with our body, we become connected to a place of deep knowing and inner wisdom. Our bodies are wise truth tellers. They know the way towards safety, healing, and wholeness. Somatic coaching can teach you how to listen to your body and understand what it has to say.
