Through experiencing the work I share with others I have become the most embodied, empowered, joyful version of myself. I feel the best I have ever felt. I spend a lot of time dancing by the ocean at sunset and skipping through the forest (literally!) But it wasn’t always this way; in fact for so long I felt :
Stressed TF out
Burned out , struggling, stuck
Deeply disconnected to feeling any type of joy
Dissatisfied with jobs where I was micro-managed, overworked, underpaid, and bullied
Frustrated and resentful because day in and day out my life drained me. I wasn’t living a life that felt good. I felt like life could be so much more but that I couldn’t get there.
I struggled with low self worth, perfectionism, hypervigilance, saying no, and people pleasing for belonging or keeping a job. I was in survival mode, operating in ways that I thought would keep me safe instead of acting in accordance to my own needs and desires. I was consumed with striving, doing, pleasing, overachieving, and over-responsibility.
As you might imagine, this way of being in the world was unsustainable. It caused severe anxiety and chronic stress, which wore on my body until it screamed NO in 2018 and my health crashed.
I experienced a host of symptoms including chronic fatigue, which left me barely able to walk up a flight of stairs. I found myself severely anxious, dysregulated, and struggling to cope. Everything felt unmanageable and hard. As my list of symptoms grew, so did the list of what I tried to regain my health from different doctors, different diets, dozens of supplements, and alternative modalities. I was completely overwhelmed and desperate to find answers.
When I first found somatics in 2019 it was like a light bulb went off. Things began to make sense. I learned that my nervous system had been in survival mode for most of my life and found this knowledge to be both enlightening and empowering. Somatics not only gave me the framework to understand what was happening in my body, but also the tools to help shift my state. Gradually I moved from a severe state of dysregulation to more calm, safety, and presence.
I went from being extremely hypervigilant, with strong catastrophic thinking patterns to feeling more flow, trust, and hope in life. And from these places of trust and hope I was able to make bold decisions to realign my life to my values which included quitting my job and moving across the country. My next inspired action was to train in what helped me most so that I can share this with others. The core pieces that changed my life include:
Nervous system regulation
Body-based trauma resolution
Life realignment according to values
Saying no and creating boundaries
Self-Compassion
Parts Work (Internal Family Systems)
Trusting my intuition and tapping into the flow of life
Incorporating more joy/fun/ play!
These core pieces are what I help clients work on in sessions and I am trained to provide support in these areas. I hold certifications in Somatic Stress Release™, Somatic Parts Work, and Integrated Somatic Trauma Therapies from The Embody Lab and extensive additional coursework in nervous system regulation, chronic fatigue recovery, healthy/conscious relationships, and self-compassion.
One of the sweetest parts of my journey is that I can now receive the good that life has to offer. For many years I braced, expecting the worst. Somatics helped me feel safe enough to open, to move towards others who feel safe, to experience joy and do things just for fun. In 2023 I prioritized play over productivity. I call this time my intentional play journey and it’s led me to dance on the beach with friends, participate in silly sing-alongs, wear funky socks and puffy tutus, rediscover the joy of play-doh, and find magic in everyday life. This way of being has been thoroughly transformational and I love sharing with others how to experience more joy, play, and magic in their life!
My life feels entirely different than it did 5 years ago because I feel free. Free from constant anxiety. Free from constant survival states and the chronic stress cycle. Free from past experiences that haunted me. Free from unsupportive connections and environments. Free from my harsh inner critic. And free to choose things that feel good and fill my days with more joy. I feel like the person I always knew myself to be deep down, but had lost along the way. I didn’t get to this place of freedom and expansiveness on my own. I had many teachers and guides who provided the exact knowledge, tool, encouragement, or attunement that I needed in that moment. I am forever grateful to them and am honored to now offer guidance to others.
